    Job Purpose:

     

    Responsible for the management of the Remote Operations Center [ROC].  Responsible for the management of the Windows and Linux systems technical engineers that will be responsible to support the existing and future corporate remote devices, including hardware, operating systems and software upgrades.  Responsibility to adhere to the guidelines and procedures of the Production Data Center environments. Working with vendors and internal support organizations to ensure timely delivery of service and equipment to support new projects will be a requirement.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties:

    • The manager will work closely with the Sr. Manager, Linux, Storage, and Distributed Systems to identify, analyze, document, and communicate short and long-term plans and requirements and to schedule resources as needed.
    • This position will also be responsible to work with vendors, programmers and other resources necessary for success of each project. This job will require occasional evenings and weekend work in response to needs of the system being supported.
    • Key responsibilities include:
      • Leadership and management of the team (Windows, Linux, and WiFi Engineers)
      • Identification and management of current technology for customer facing environments
      • Responsiveness to escalated issues
      • Responsiveness to day-to-day issue resolution and proactive monitoring and maintenance
      • Production Change Management execution (All change control process/procedures are administered and documented and adhered to by anyone accessing the Production environment.)
      • Provision of on-going metrics related to key performance objectives and service levels
        • This position will also have responsibility to reduce operational costs while increasing uptime and maintaining stability will be an area of focus. Participation in capital planning and expense management will also be a requirement. 
    • Responsible for managing the administration and support activities for the company’s remote systems. Continued maintenance of such systems to improve efficiencies. Define and monitor multiple projects and/or tasks, and provides technical and administrative supervision. Provides technical consultation and support to team members and other organizations.
    • Coach, mentor, and develop personnel to reflect behaviors consistent with organizational culture.
    • Align department activities with organizational strategy, goals, and requirements. Collaborate with other departments as well as external vendor partners to complete projects and achieve service/operational goals.
    • Oversee the maintenance and re-imaging of remote Linux and Windows devices, including patching, documentation, test plans, process repository, tools, compliance reporting, etc.
    • Oversee the maintenance and remote wireless networks, including patching, documentation, test plans, process repository, tools, compliance reporting, etc.
    • Develop and refine standards for system deployment, management, backup, patching, and disaster recovery.
    • Routinely provide analysis and recommendations to management to facilitate success.
    • Adhere to the Production Change Management processes and procedures
    • Provide ongoing metrics related to key performance objectives and service levels
    • Hold regular status meetings with team; inform team of changes/expectations within the organization
    • Create status reports for the team; addresses issues as appropriate
    • Ensures company assets are maintained responsibly
    • Coordinate bid processes for all Linux and storage systems; handle the recommended purchases
    • Responsible for overseeing projects as assigned, including:
      • Establishing objectives and milestones
      • Estimating the level of effort and schedule requirements
      • Creating project plans
      • Defining team members
      • Planning, coordinating, and conducting the project and documenting results
      • Work with cross functional teams
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Must be able embrace new technology relative to creating and enhancing Linux systems and Window administration efficiencies
    • High level understanding of operating systems and foundation architecture
    • Proven track record of managing a budget and reducing operational costs
    • Above average BASH / PowerShell scripting
    • Very strong communications skills and analytical aptitude with the ability to express technical concepts effectively, both verbal and written.
    • Able to easily recognize system deficiencies and implement effective solutions.
    • Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
    • Excellent understanding of server and network management and key management success factors.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • BS Degree or applicable job experience
    • 3 years’ experience managing or supervising system administrator
    • 2 years’ experience working with Windows 
    • 5 years’ experience with Linux – Ubuntu or RHEL or derived distributions—3 years
    • Experience working with Linux platforms such as CentOS, Red Hat, Ubuntu, or Debian
    • 5 years’ experience with Linux and Windows troubleshooting.
    • Experience with Industry best practices for Linux and Windows security, system hardening, and patch processes.
    • 5 years’ experience with system and process automation.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Red Hat Certified Engineer
    • Microsoft Certified Engineer
    • Experience with Kiosk equipment
    • Experience with ticket management systems (Heat / Freshdesk).
    • Advanced experience with Python programing
    • Experience with SaltStack, Zabbix, PXE, Cobbler, and systemd
    • Experience working with WiFi networks
    • Experience working with Windows 8 and 10
    •  

    Physical Requirements:

    Standing, sitting, walking, speaking, listening, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and manipulating tools, typing, using peripheral computer tools.  May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
