    Job Purpose:


    The Senior Accountant, Commissions position is essential to the business as their primary responsibility is to ensure all facility commission payments are processed accurately and timely. Additionally, this position’s responsibilities solidifies Securus as the Best in Class Inmate Telephone providers as it relates to compensating DOCs and counties that choose to do business with Securus. The Senior Accountant, Commissions position is responsible for all aspects of preparing facility commission payments and reporting. The responsibilities include implementing contractual arrangements, recording journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts and processing accurate and timely commission payments to facilities. The Senior Accountant, Commissions must possess strong interpersonal skills, have the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, be proactive, and have accounting experience.


    Essential Duties:

    • Update commissions system, process commission and contract incentive payments in accordance with contractual terms and record to general ledger.
    • Maintain a Contract Tracking spreadsheet of future changes needed.
    • Reconcile all commission-related accounts including but not limited to Accrued Commissions, Prepaid Expense – Commission, and A/R Commission Deduction. Ensure commissions system and general ledger tie out monthly.
    • Prepare all commission-related journal entries.
    • Ensure all commission deductions are accurate and processed before commission payments are issued.
    • Prepare complex commission payment calculations and reporting for Praeses sites.
    • Analyze commission expense trends as a percentage of revenue to ensure the accounting follows proper GAAP guidelines.
    • Analyze commission deduction sub ledger at least semi-annually to ensure receivables are collectible; Work with the sales team to create payment arrangements for problem sites and prepare manual statements of account.
    • Audit rates in commissions system quarterly to ensure accuracy.
    • Serve as a liaison with other Securus departments, including but not limited to the Executive Team, Sales, and Legal.
    • Research and respond to internal and external customer inquiries.
    • Create check requests in Doclink for annual payments, tech grants, and commission true-ups.
    • Submit wire requests in Doclink for monthly Commissions paid via ACH.
    • Test system changes as they relate to Comm 2.0.
    • Adhoc reporting and additional duties as assigned.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Proficient in Microsoft office, general ledger, accounts payable and web-based software
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Must be able to interact with all levels of personnel and multiple departments professionally
    • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Must be detail oriented and highly accurate
    • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize work load to meet deadlines
    • Self-sufficient, highly motivated with desire and ability to learn new skills quickly and efficiently

     Minimum Qualifications:

    • BA/BS degree in Accounting or other business related degree with emphasis in accounting
    • 5 to 6 years’ experience in Accounting
    • Must enjoy a mix of accounting, analysis and processing

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains
    • 2 years accounting experience in commissions, royalties or contract-driven environment
    • SOX experience
    • Telecom experience
    • Doc-link or document management system experience

    Physical Requirements:


    Standing, sitting, walking, speaking, listening, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and manipulating tools, typing, using peripheral computer tools.  May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
