Job Purpose:


The Senior Installation Technician is to service the implementation through a technically supported escalation structure with issue-management and project-management.  The role will fulfill needs of advanced understanding of the implementation of Securus products with regards to IT infrastructure, complex network engineering, network equipment configuration, transport and security models and R&D for new technology.  Utilizing product knowledge, business knowledge, and data mining, the Senior Installation Technician will identify improvement opportunities and work with Project Management, Installation Technicians and other organizations to develop and execute implementations.  The role will also function as QA escalation resource for proper configuration settings in regards to existing and pre-released products.  These activities will be used to gain first-hand knowledge of new products, as well as identify improvement opportunities, training opportunities, and support processes.  This role is responsible for providing other departments direction with regard to final analysis of Bill of Materials and Site Survey Review to provide alternative recommendations as necessary.  The Senior Installation Technician is responsible for working with appropriate Securus departments in order to understand and maintain accurate engineering rules and guidelines while passing this knowledge on to other team members.


  • Senior Hardware and Transport escalation resource for Operations Support.
  • Monitor and support all systems for performance; recommend and implement resolutions for performance issues within 7 days of a completed installation.
  • Manage job dependencies in conjunction with departmental or enterprise objectives.
  • Perform accurate and timely escalation procedures of system failures / production outages to necessary departments.
  • Plan and execute system modifications within project installations and escalated events.
  • Demonstrate strong initiative by providing feedback to team members, management and other departments for the creation or improvement of processes and procedures.
  • Integrate new development opportunities into new or existing job streams.
  • Maintain awareness of upcoming release management activities relating to the implementation of application software into the test and production environments.
  • Manage the planning and activities of assigned projects, reporting on progress as necessary, to ensure implementation dates are attained in line with project timelines.
  • Perform duties relating to implementation validation and acceptance testing of new systems or major changes to existing systems.
  • Provide justification to support changes to project costs, attend project progress meetings and perform acceptance testing.
  • Provide implementation planning and documentation for projects as required.
  • Manage the development and implementation process of multiple complex and major customer projects.
  • Ensure effective coordination between installation, LEC and all cross-departmental functions for assigned projects.
  • Requires the ability to meet inflexible deadlines and perform non-predictive multiple tasks.
  • Voice and network equipment preparation for activation of complex customer facing services. Work with project management, voice and data vendors, and field service personnel to activate new services.
  • Participate in the development of procedures and best practices.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to other appropriate teams during and occasionally outside business hours.
  • Escalation resource for the test and turn-up of network components.
  • Responsible for the design planning, and the documentation of network designs as requested by various internal and external departments.
  • Review and analyze current systems and network designs to meet customer expectations in accordance to company guidelines.
  • Reviews design architect-engineers’ working drawings and specifications which indicate building size and general arrangement that meet company accepted practice and requirements for network installations.
  • Work in conjunction with appropriate departments regarding best practices on a broad range of engineering solutions.
  • Provides leadership and guidance opportunities within the Implementation Install Team as appropriate.
  • Provides advice to field service managers, supervisors, engineers of existing technical policies, standard operating procedures and maintenance and fabrication activities.
  • Approves site surveys to investigate existing equipment layout and conditions.
  • Writes reports recommending corrective action on deficient conditions.
  • Investigates a variety of problems which are experienced in construction or other modifications in the original design.
  • Provides advice and guidance on the development, updating maintenance of engineering drawing of existing sites including modifications and construction of new facilities as well as network security documentation.
  • Generate various customer documents such as installation packages, bill of materials, network diagrams and detailed engineering documentation.
  • Work with IT Architecture on all platform builds and testing for new equipment with Research and Development. Reviews new equipment from vendors with IT Architecture. Assist with the Design and Implementation of new products and services and provide documentation for install and support.
  • Work with IT engineering on all Platform Builds for the SCP and SVV environment and function as a liaison between IT support, Operations and Field Support for Hardware and Transport issues.
  • Conduct site surveys and or site visits to Tier 1 and 2 customers for complex hardware, transport and or platform issues when required.
  • Updates Network Premised Equipment for change control purposes such as firmware or configuration change deployment.
  • Subject Matter Expert for SCP, SVV, tablet, wireless hardware and transport requirements.
  • Maintains Adtran configurations for baseline configs for customer facing Securus Network platforms.


  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the related fields that pertain to Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in engineering and/or high-level systems support role within Telecommunications industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows, Linux OS as well as, SQL.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications.
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Experience in developing and executing both large and small scale project plans.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Familiarity with customer premise scenarios including wiring and business requirements.
  • Understanding of network security, encryption protocols, IPsec VPN, stateful inspection.
  • Industry certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP and CompTIA CTP, and Microsoft MCSE
  • Strong technical skills including core Telephony; Data and Networking.
  • Ability to read markup and understand blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to learn new technical concepts and systems.
  • Ability to assign IP addresses and subnets and maintain IP databases.
  • Experience with Network design, install, configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Orion or other network monitoring tools and capabilities to log and understand data supplied.
  • Experience with IP, PPP, VPN, firewalls, DS3, DS1, DS0, and MPLS.
  • Expert knowledge with VoIP/SIP network design and implementation.
  • Some travel required.
