Overview

This position is a key contributor to our Wireless Containment Solutions (WCS) product.  The WCS product consists of installing a private small cell network and DAS in our nations prisons to control and manage mobile devices that are unknown or unauthorized.  The WCS/DAS Installation Engineer is responsible to plan for and lead installation crews for the duration of Correctional Facility WCS and in-building distributed antenna systems (DAS) projects. This person is a leader capable of managing, training, and mentoring a crew of company employees and contracted vendors while on site.

Responsibilities

  • Must be experienced in areas associated with RF Scanning, use of and interpreting results of a Spectrum Analyzer, and OTDR use for fiber testing, and coaxial cable and connector installation and full cable sweep test standards.
  • Fiber fusion splicing knowledge and experience highly desired
  • Experience with installation and commissioning of DAS equipment manufactured by SOLiD, Zinwave, and other DAS equipment providers will be considered as well. 
  • Experience with Carrier-Neutral DAS deployments that distribute multi-carrier, frequency band, and channels  
  • Travel will be involved with this position; must be willing to travel within specified regions to cover projects of varying lengths up to several weeks at a time
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate technical documentation, specifications, and RF data sheets, including red lined as-built drawings for final installation completion packages for each project
  • Should have strong leadership skills with emphasis on safety, quality, customer experience, communication, and on time delivery
  • Must be have experienced conducting site surveys for DAS projects and capturing notes in order to help with the design and bill of material (BOM)
  • Strong computer skills are required with experience using Microsoft Office products
  • Should have effective time management and strategic planning skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills are a must
  • Should be proactive with a sense of urgency, adaptable to change and eager to learn new technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Must be very well organized

Qualifications

Preferred Skills:

  • Experienced in participating in initial site surveys assisting in the overall design and engineering solution, estimated costs for labor and material, and developing project time lines and using project management tools. 
  • Three or more years of successful experience leading multiple installation crews and monitoring multiple tasks simultaneously for large scale DAS projects on sites such as multi-floor buildings and/or outdoor public venues
  • Strong experience in DAS installation, commissioning, and maintenance of DAS systems (in-building preferred)  
  • Familiar and proficient with telecom and industry standards including NEC, BICSI, GR1275, AT&T TP76300, Verizon Wireless NSTD119, as well as Verizon Wireless and AT&T/ASG DAS standards
  • Experience/knowledge in coaxial testing, VSWR fundamentals, and connectors

Education/Certifications THIS IS A COPY FROM THE RF DAS ENGINEER (NEEDS CHANGING/OMISSION)

  • DAS training or OEM certification desired

Experience/Minimum Requirements

  • 3-5 years direct DAS installation and project management experience or equivalent, including indoor and outdoor DAS implementations using both Fiber and Coaxial Cable methods for active DAS systems
  • Experience with indoor and outdoor DAS commissioning and troubleshooting methods
  • Experience with wireless technology and BTS systems using GSM, CDMA, UMTS and LTE protocols, as well as public safety and LMR (ex. FirstNet)
  • Demonstrated expertise troubleshooting RF issues and DAS systems and providing performance reports
  • Able to use RF test equipment and software, perform RF Scan Analysis testing, and assess current RF environments
  • Familiar with micro and/or small cell network (SCN) architecture, coverage goals and availability/reliability
  • Knowledge of radio wave propagation fundamentals, antenna theory, and optical transmission
  • Experience using Project Management Tools to create, track, provide status, and check off milestone task completions of a project, and to identify risks and resolution tactics to each key task and milestone of a WCS/DAS implementation
  • Able to travel 75% to customer sites and vendor meetings
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and different geographic locations simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required for project management
